Análisis proteico, genético y farmacológico de la catalasa y otros anzimas antioxidantes en la enfermedad de Crohn: impacto terapeútico

In our research group we have recently published that catalase enzyme is permanently inhibited in Crohn’s disease patients independently of disease activity. Therefore, it is possible to consider that catalase enzyme is not only involved in detoxification of H2O2 (increased in Crohn’s disease patients) but it may play an important role in the regulation of important cellular processes such as cell cycle and apoptosis. Different studies have pointed out that catalase gene seems to be insensitive to oxidative stress induced by ROS and maintains a base-level expression, being considerate as non regulated housekeeper gene.
The main target of this project is to analyze the presence of alterations in the catalase gene associated to Crohn’s disease. In order to give light on this point we pretend to analyze SNPs (rs1001179; rs475043; rs494024; rs704724; rs3758730) in the catalase gene in population large enough of Crohn’s disease patients and healthy controls to find a significant association with the disease and their different clinical variables.
Genetic samples from Crohn’s disease patients will be obtained from ENEIDA platform, whose data base includes all the clinical variables of patients included. Healthy controls samples will be obtained from Banco Nacional de AND Carlos III.
